Industry and services will be boosted for a new growth through technical skills, innovation capacities and entrepreneurship spirit of engineers trained in the major European Higher Education institutions.
As it appears absolutely necessary to emphasize the major strategic role Higher Engineering Education plays for enhancing a competitive and powerful economy, following the Lisbon strategy.
During the French European Union Presidency, strong initiatives have been taken intended to draw the attention of the European public authorities and public opinions to the urgent need to enhance engineering education. The States are taking part in an enthusiastic contest in the global market of education that has become now one of the 2 or 3 main economic sector in foreign trades. This initiative is now taken over by the Czech Republic during the Czech European Union Presidency.
The system for evaluation and labeling the quality of engineering education is being introduced into European countries under the QUESTE programme. The industrial and societal necessity, problems and consequences of this system will be discussed.
